Overcoming Victim Mentality
An unfortunate and often devastating fact of life is that people will sometimes hurt you. They may mistreat you intentionally or misunderstand you unintentionally. Our world is full of villains, and that’s why there are many victims. But even if someone legitimately hurts you deeply, you must not make that sinful hurt your personal identity and adopt a victim mindset. The victim mindset will hurt you far worse than whatever the villains in your life have done to you.

God the I AM
When Moses turned aside to look at the burning bush, he was living in a period of divine silence. Scripture’s last recorded words from God were His direction to Jacob to reunite with Joseph in Egypt (Gen. 46). Two generations previously, God told Abraham how long that period of silence would be: “Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years” (Gen. 15:13).

Wisdom's Counsel
What is wisdom’s counsel saying to us from Proverbs 20? Wisdom’s primary counsel is found in verse 3: do not be a meddling fool, and cease from unnecessary strife. Throughout the chapter, Solomon provides counsel concerning common things people meddle with, that cause them unnecessary strife.

You Are What You Love
Central to God’s character is that he loves. 1 John 4:8 famously says that “he that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love.” However, when we say that God loves, we are not saying that anything called love is a godly thing. What we mean—because it is what the Bible communicates—is that God is the one who defines what love is.

If Jesus Never Came
January 6 marks the end of the Christmas season. It is the last of the 12 days of Christmas and places us firmly in the new year. As we turn our thoughts away from Advent and toward our responsibilities for 2026, let me ask you this question. What if Jesus had never been born? Have you ever pondered that thought? If not, it is probably because at Christmas we just presume upon His birth. We celebrate it, as we certainly should. It is the birth most worth celebrating.

Is New Year's That Important?
The celebration of New Year’s has a surprisingly complex history. Some cultures have celebrated the beginning of the year in the spring, since it is the season of new growth and life. Other cultures observed New Year’s closer to the winter solstice, when the days began to lengthen after the shortest day of the year. In Exodus 12:1-2, God decreed that Israel’s new year would begin in the month He delivered them from Egypt.
