Spiritual swagger is good, and all Christians should have it. If you regularly listen to Strength for Life content or NorthStone Baptist Church sermons, you have heard the term “spiritual swagger” as a synonym for God-confidence. The redeemed should be confident enough to confront civil authorities, like John the Baptist did when he confronted Herod about his adultery. “It is not lawful for thee to have her,” he told the civil magistrate in Matthew 14:4.

We live in a God-designed world where shame can be distributed, but it cannot be destroyed. Cities like ours have two options: shame the drag performers by using our influence to get their local performance canceled, or bring shame onto ourselves by allowing them proceed with their presentation in the face of our gospel presence.

This first rule of Bible interpretation—"context determines interpretation”—is also the first principle of Bible application. In the realm of application, though, there is an additional principle to follow. The second rule of Bible application is to understand the situation accurately before applying any Scripture. In other words, we cannot apply the Bible until we know what’s really going on.
